Kingston Marketing and Communication Services
small business & placement clients

In April 2021, I completed a six-week internship with the Communications Services department at Empire Life.
I developed proposals for digital marketing communication initiatives that were approved and implemented before the conclusion of my internship. I practiced internal communications whilst liaising with internal departments and staff, and through regular article planning, creation, and execution for nationwide team nurturing. Internal content creation included the generation of articles (blogs) for internal team members on the company's intranet. Additionally, I assisted in the planning of their centennial anniversary and EDI initiative development.
Many of the projects I worked on were internal-only initiatives so I can not share much, but below is a quick insight into some of the projects I got to be a part of.

Social media communications was another big part of my placement with Empire Life. I assisted in organic social media marketing to their target markets consisting of content calendar planning, content creation, copywriting, and strategy development.
I assisted in social media strategy and planning by performing market research on competitor's social media strategies, marketing tools, etc. to create proposals for the Communication Services team to review. This also included a proposal for a social media recruitment campaign to assist with new employee acquisition and brand awareness.
Additionally, I hosted an Instagram Takeover on my last day of placement to encourage employees to act as brand ambassadors and to engage followers.

The City of kingston - Cultural services
I completed my first placement in the AMC program at The City of Kingston - Cultural Services Department. My placement was 2-days a week for 2-months and took place from March 2020 - February 2020.
Working under the Marketing Manager and Communications Officers for the Cultural Services department I assisted in planning and executing marketing campaigns for the Grand Theatre.
I created and executed marketing plans for three Grand Theatre productions which included composing, editing, and publishing organic, and paid digital/ social media advertisements to generate ticket sales. For each campaign, I was the copywriter, digital designer, and assistant lead. Each campaign also consisted of print marketing materials and e-blast promotions managed via Constant Contact and direct mail.
A Musical Evening with
Sarah Slean &
Hawksley Workman
'A Musical Evening with Sarah Slean & Hawksley Workman' was the show I was tasked with marketing solo. They are two independent Canadian artists that joined together for a tour. They perform alternative, rock, and cabaret music.
I created a marketing plan for the show that included:
-
Social media marketing strategy (organic & paid)
-
Print marketing tactics
-
Email marketing tactics
-
Copywriting (social, print, email, etc.)
-
Graphic design creation (social & print)
The show surpassed the target sales goal in response to the marketing campaign but was sadly canceled the day before the concert due to COVID-19 safety measures.

The above are examples of social media graphics I developed for our social media marketing campaign, both organic and paid content.
The above are sized for Instagram (1080x1080px) but graphics sized for Twitter & Facebook (1200x628px) were developed as well.
These graphics and personalized copy were pre-scheduled using SproutSocial and were posted onto The Grand Theatre's official social media pages (Instagram, Twitter & Facebook).
The image above is the poster I created for the show in Adobe Photoshop & Adobe InDesign.

MISSION SONGS PROJECT
'Mission Songs Project ' was the show I worked on marketing with my AMC placement partner, Reilly McCracken.
'Mission Songs Project' is a performance that faithfully navigates the musical journey of Aboriginal music as Jessie Lloyd connects the traditional with contemporary, revealing the continuation of cultural practice and song traditions into the 21st Century.
We co-created a marketing plan for the show that included:
-
Social media marketing strategy (organic & paid)
-
Print marketing tactics
-
Email marketing tactics
-
Copywriting (social, print, email, etc.)
-
Graphic design creation (social & print)
The show sadly was canceled due to COVID-19 and little of the marketing plan was able to roll out before it was postponed.
